Wisconsin's limited X-ray rules

Wisconsin's Radiography Examining Board (DSPS) issues Limited X-Ray Machine Operator (LXMO) permits. The exam is "the Wisconsin examination for limited scope of practice in radiography developed by the ARRT" (RAD 3.03).

Under Wis. Stat. 462.02(1)(b) a permit covers one or more of chest; upper and lower extremities including the shoulder girdle (but not the hip or pelvis); lower leg and foot; and spine. There's no skull/sinus category in the statute.

Worth knowing

  • Your course must include the ASRT limited scope curriculum through a JRCERT-accredited program.
  • A maximum of 3 attempts per 12 months.
  • Exactly which ARRT modules DSPS assigns, and whether you pick areas, isn't stated on the official pages we found.

Some of Wisconsin's details aren't stated on an official page we could read. Check with your state board before you apply or register for an exam.
