Florida's limited X-ray rules
Florida's Department of Health issues two Basic X-ray Machine Operator certificates: BXMO, for general diagnostic radiography under the direct supervision of a licensed practitioner (with facility restrictions), and BXMO-Podiatric Medicine (BXMO-PM), for podiatric radiography only.
The DOH FAQ says Florida uses ARRT's Limited Scope Radiography exam for BXMO. You register through the ARRT state portal (staterhc.org) and pay $125. Florida's official pages don't say which procedure modules each certificate requires, so confirm that with DOH before you register.
Worth knowing
- No formal program required: Rule 64E-3.003 asks for a review of Radiography Essentials for Limited Practice or an equivalent course covering the ARRT Limited Scope content.
- A 4-hour HIV/AIDS course is also required.
- No chiropractic category.
Some of Florida's details aren't stated on an official page we could read. Check with your state board before you apply or register for an exam.

Florida limited X-ray FAQ
What's the difference between BXMO and BXMO-PM in Florida?
BXMO covers general diagnostic radiography under the direct supervision of a licensed practitioner, with facility restrictions. BXMO-Podiatric Medicine covers podiatric radiography only.
Do I need to attend an X-ray program to become a BXMO?
No formal program is required. Rule 64E-3.003 asks for a review of Radiography Essentials for Limited Practice or an equivalent course covering the ARRT Limited Scope content specifications, plus a 4-hour HIV/AIDS course.
Which modules are on the Florida BXMO exam?
Florida's official pages don't say which procedure modules each certificate needs. The likely split is Core plus Chest, Extremities, Skull/Sinuses and Spine for BXMO, and Core plus Podiatric for BXMO-PM, but that's unconfirmed, so we cover the Core and all five modules until you confirm with DOH.
What score do I need to pass the Florida BXMO exam?
65% per Rule 64E-3.005 (last amended 1998; may be outdated). Limited X-Ray Prep only calls you ready once you reach 75% on every section.
