North Carolina's limited X-ray rules
North Carolina has no state license or exam for X-ray operators. The NC Radiation Protection Section's credentials guidance (revised May 2018) says operators must be "instructed in the safe operating procedures" under 10A NCAC 15 .0603.
That training is verified by the employer and checked at inspection. Licensure bills have been introduced repeatedly, but we found none enacted.

North Carolina limited X-ray FAQ
Do X-ray operators need a license in North Carolina?
No state license or exam. Under 10A NCAC 15 .0603 operators must be instructed in safe operating procedures, which the employer verifies and inspectors check.
How can I show I'm trained in North Carolina?
Your employer documents the safe-operation instruction for inspections. Studying the limited scope core (radiation safety, patient care and image production) builds the same knowledge in depth.
Does North Carolina use the ARRT Limited Scope exam?
Not as a state requirement: North Carolina has no limited license exam in the rules we found. Employers can set their own training requirements, and the ARRT Limited Scope exam is what most licensing states use if you move.
