What is the limited scope X-Ray exam?
Many states let limited X-Ray machine operators (often called LXMOs, limited permit or basic X-Ray machine operators) take X-rays in clinics, urgent care and doctors' offices. Most of those states use the ARRT Examination for the Limited Scope of Practice in Radiography: a core section that everyone takes, plus procedure modules chosen by the state.
Which modules you take, and the score you need to pass, depend on your state. Limited X-Ray Prep builds your study around those rules, so you don't waste time on sections that won't be on your exam.

Questions
What is a limited scope X-Ray license?
Many states let limited X-Ray machine operators (often called LXMOs, limited permit technicians or basic X-Ray machine operators) take X-rays of specific body areas in clinics, urgent care and doctors' offices without being a registered radiologic technologist. Each state decides which body areas and which exam.
Which exam does my state use?
Most states that license limited operators use the ARRT Examination for the Limited Scope of Practice in Radiography, a core section plus body-area modules. A few give their own exam, and some don't license limited operators at all. Pick your state above to see what applies to you.
What score do I need to pass?
Your state sets the pass mark, and it applies to each section separately, so a strong core can't make up for a weak module. Where a state doesn't publish a mark we use 70%. We only show you as ready at 75% or more on every section.
What's free and what's paid?
A free account gets your state-matched dashboard and one practice set per module each day. Full access adds unlimited practice and the timed mock exams.
Does it renew automatically?
No. Full access is a one-time payment for 1 month or 3 months. When it ends you go back to the free plan with your history kept, and you can buy more time whenever you like.
I want to become a full radiologic technologist. Can you help?
The ARRT Radiography exam (R.T.(R)) needs an accredited radiography program first. Once you're in one, our sister site Rad Registry Prep covers the full registry, and the same login works on both.
