Pelvis, Hip, Skull and Facial Bones

Internally rotate the legs 15 to 20 degrees for an AP pelvis, and never frog-leg a suspected hip fracture.

Skull Positioning Lines

Skull baselines run from facial landmarks to the external acoustic meatus (EAM). The orbitomeatal line (OML) runs from the outer canthus of the eye to the EAM, and the infraorbitomeatal line (IOML) runs from the infraorbital margin to the EAM, about 7 degrees below the OML. The acanthiomeatal line (AML) starts at the acanthion, where the nose meets the upper lip, and the mentomeatal line (MML) starts at the mentum, the point of the chin. The interpupillary line (IPL) joins the pupils and must be perpendicular to the detector for every lateral. Because of the 7 degree difference, a CR angle to the IOML is about 7 degrees greater than the same angle to the OML.
