Modified Waters for the orbital floors, Rhese for the optic canal, and a Waters screen for metal before MRI.
Modified Waters
The orbits are imaged for fractures, especially blowout fractures of the orbital floor, and to screen for metal before MRI. Erect is preferred. For the modified parietoacanthial, the modified Waters, the patient faces the IR with the chin resting on it and the OML at 55 degrees to the IR, less tilted than a routine Waters at 37 degrees. The lips-meatal line is perpendicular to the IR. The CR is perpendicular, exiting at the acanthion. The petrous ridges project into the lower half of the maxillary sinuses, below the orbital floors, which shows the floors clearly.
