CPR, AED and Choking

Push hard and fast: 100–120 per minute, 2–2.4 inches deep, 30:2. Attach the AED early and resume compressions right after each shock.

Adult BLS

Make sure the scene is safe, then tap and shout. If the patient is unresponsive, shout for help, call the code and send someone for the AED and crash cart. Check breathing and the carotid pulse together for no more than 10 seconds; gasping is not normal breathing. With no pulse, start compressions on the lower half of the sternum. Push at 100–120 per minute, at least 2 inches (5 cm) but not more than 2.4 inches (6 cm), and let the chest recoil fully. Keep pauses under 10 seconds. Give 30 compressions to 2 breaths, each breath over about 1 second with visible chest rise. Switch compressors every 2 minutes. If there is a pulse but no normal breathing, give 1 breath every 6 seconds.
