Calcaneus

Plantodorsal axial with the CR 40 degrees cephalad to the long axis of the foot, plus a lateral 1 inch below the medial malleolus.

Patient and part

The calcaneus routine is a plantodorsal axial and a lateral. For the axial, the patient is supine or seated with the leg extended. Dorsiflex the foot until the sole is near perpendicular to the IR, and have the patient pull it back gently with a strip of gauze or tape looped around the ball of the foot. Keep the leg straight, with no rotation. For the lateral, the patient lies on the affected side with the lateral side of the foot on the IR, the foot dorsiflexed and the sole perpendicular to the IR, like a lateral ankle.
