ARRT Standards of Ethics: Code, Rules and Reporting

The Code says what you should strive for; the Rules say what you must not do. Report within 30 days or at renewal, whichever is first.

Three parts

The ARRT Standards of Ethics opens with a Preamble and a Statement of Purpose, then has three parts. The Code of Ethics is aspirational. Its 11 principles (10 in older editions) describe the ideal technologist: acting professionally, respecting dignity, using sound judgment and continuing to learn. It guides behavior, but ARRT does not sanction anyone under it. The Rules of Ethics are mandatory and enforceable. They list conduct that can cost you your credential, and they bind every certified technologist and every candidate. The Administrative Procedures explain how ARRT handles a possible violation: Ethics Committee review, notice, a hearing if requested, a decision and an appeal to the Board of Trustees. Memory aid: the Code is should, the Rules are must.
