Anatomic side markers
A lead R or L in the field on every image, off the anatomy; on laterals and obliques, mark the side closest to the IR.
Why markers
Every image needs a lead anatomic marker, R or L, placed in the field at the time of exposure. It is the legal record of which side was imaged. Without it, a left knee and a right knee can look the same, and a fracture could be treated on the wrong side. Most departments require the lead marker, and an R or L typed in on the computer afterward is not a substitute for it. A missing or wrong marker can mean a repeat.
